Arhaic BEATS
Band
Arhaic BEATS is the fusion of old and new, of the archaic and the modern. The project brings together contemporary electronic beats and archaic wind and percussion instruments in a unique sonic formula, exploring a territory rarely encountered on modern stages: a blend of hip-hop, breakbeat, techno, and drum’n’bass with ancestral instruments, creating a truly original musical experience.
Constantin Covaliu
Entrepreneur
Born in Botoșani and later becoming an entrepreneur in Cluj-Napoca, Constantin (“Luș”) Covaliu has helped create experiences that changed the way people live and experience cities. From his involvement in projects such as the Transilvania International Film Festival to roles in organizing the Untold Festival and Neversea Festival, his journey reflects on how collective experiences can transform communities. As co-founder of the Street FOOD Festival and managing partner of Why Not Us, he has contributed to organizing more than 100 events that brought together millions of people around food, music, and urban spaces. He is also involved in projects such as Stradale and Bruto restaurants, as well as the urban space Zazen Verde Urban.
Jeffery Macsim
Musician
Jeffery is from Botoșani, has been playing the piano since the age of 6, and believes that anyone can learn anything, anytime. For Jeff, music is the perfect proof of that: music can inspire, spark curiosity, and, at the right moment, even save anyone. The most important pianists for Jeff are Radu Lupu, Dinu Lipatti, Frank O’Hara, the 6-year-old child at their first lessons, the adult who has just discovered a new passion, Vladimir Horowitz, Artur Schnabel, and all the teachers he has had the privilege to work with over the years.
Karina Jianu
Actress
Karina is a Romanian film and theater actress. She was born on November 16, 2002, in Botoșani, Romania. She graduated from I.L. Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film, in Professor George Ivașcu’s class, class of 2024. While still in university, she performed in theater productions such as Double Fiesta (directed by Andrea Gavriliu), Iubiri senile (directed by Michele Modesto Casarin), and Dreptate pentru un criminal. She also appeared in the short films Blocada (2021, directed by Eusebio Treimii), Noaptea de vineri a Milenei (2022, directed by Petra Torsan), and Sunny (2024, directed by Andreea Parfenov). Her role as Sofi in Hoții de subiecte marks her feature film debut.
Ovidiu Leonte
Teacher
Ovidiu Leonte is an English language teacher, an assessment expert for the British Council, a teaching practice mentor at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, an ISJ methodologist, and the coordinator of the academic journal RATE Issues. He has written books on American studies focusing on contemporary civilization, especially commercial novels and films.
Paul Paraschiv
Assistant Lecturer
Paul Mihai Paraschiv is a teaching assistant and PhD candidate at the Faculty of Letters, Babeș-Bolyai University. His research focuses on critical animal studies, ecocriticism, nonhuman narratology, eighteenth-century literature, and literary theory. He has published articles and reviews in academic journals, as well as two Romanian-language translations: part of the volume Combined and Uneven Development: Towards a New Theory of World-Literature and the essay by Cary Wolfe, “Human, All Too Human: ‘Animal Studies’ and the Humanities.”
Sabina Balan
Playwright
Sabina Balan is a playwright, facilitator, and PhD candidate at UNATC in Bucharest. She writes about social issues such as power, abuse, and normativity, with the gentleness of an empathetic gaze and the strength of a critical voice. She leads theater workshops with pupils, students, and various vulnerable communities, placing her trust in pedagogy and empowerment. As a researcher in ethical models of collective creation, she believes in collaborative art, and traces her own need for collaboration as an artist, in part, to a teenagehood spent at the Mihai Eminescu Theatre in Botoșani.
Vlad Guluță
Psychologist
Vlad graduated from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, majoring in Psychology, and later completed a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Psychological Counseling, and Psychotherapy at Babeș-Bolyai University. Throughout his years of study, he became involved in various volunteer projects. He developed and coordinated university integration activities with students, while also leading workshops and providing career counseling. Every summer since the beginning of university, he has worked as a trainer in socio-emotional development camps for young adults. At the same time, he participated in projects focused on implementing emotional development activities in Africa, as well as projects involving clinical screening and counseling in refugee camps. He delivers psychoeducation events for the general public on a variety of topics, especially career guidance, workplace mental health, and socio-emotional development.
